Is there any way of installing the FifthLeg-Bold font as the default for use in office applications?

Yes there is. I think these directions are still valid.

Thanks for that link, it will be useful. As for the FifthLeg font, it turns out it was not installed
(At least so that I could find it) but I was able to bring it in and install it with Yast.
