Opensuse upgrade from 11.2 to 11.3

Well, yes I did it. My first try with the upgrade option.
Have to say thing went very well, no major issues with any packages.
Keep in mind the upgrade option only does standard system packages, no pacman or vlc etc.
Not that much of an issue to have to install repo's.
Of course still no nvidia drivers yet so will be doing that the ol'fashion way.

Thanks Welan for the report. Not sure when I will get around to updating from 11.2 but it is good to know that doing a upgrade is an option. Which DE are you using if any?

I'll second that thanks for the report. Think I'm going to wait a bit, and see what else you and others report. But I do hope it plays well with the laptop.

Did you just choose the upgrade option from the disk?
or did you use zypper dup ?

from the disc and I'm still tinkering with KDE4...still not sure I like the new kde

I suppose that we will just have to get used to it or be left behind - or change to lxde or xfce

I tried the "zypper dup" method over the network but got into difficulty with the nvidia drivers on start up, the old black screen thing. So, I thought I would try and repair my upgrade from a disk, no joy. Then installed from the disk, which went smoothly. On start up I was just missing some qt lib's for some reason, which was easy enough to fix. /home/user folders were all intact, just some very minor KDE configuration required. Will also revert to the "hard" method for installation of nvidia drivers, it's not that hard. Still working through all the new nouveau and xorg stuff here.

Well started both DVD versions downloading on bittorrent last night, so they should be done. I need time to stop and install it. For now I'll have to do with sharing it on bittorrent.

I have a 11.0 machine at the office, and a VMware 6 workstation. As 11.0 no longer has repositories, and my openoffice is broken, I have to do a new installation. I can't re-install without the repositories.
I am a little scared about doing this.
Has anyone got 11.3 working with a 6.x version of vmware?

I upgraded mine with dup and all went well. And I have 28 repositories. I had to convert them all to 11.3 and then ref and then dup. No problems.

Forgot about this Alastiro. This is related to the layout of the kernel src to fix I did some symlinking think this was the fix it isn't a Suse problem but src change. The vmware module script is looking in the wrong place create the symlinks and try again worked for me.

I've been wanting to do the same thing, but I am worried about it going fubar, so are we talking that openSuSE is similar to what deb has or BSD with ports?

I guess all I would have to do is move all my work to an external and if it goes south than do a clean install?

I tried to install vmware 6.5, but with no success. I'm sure the fix will be along soon, but due to having an immediate need for vmware, I upgraded to version 7.1 - which was very easy to install.

Keysersuse, I would hold off a bit until issues are sorted.
