| yummm... I love fish, actually whatever comes out of the sea. As the sea product is "primitive" the more delicious to me, ie. muscles on top then calamres then prawns then fish By the way, anybody tried eating sharks? | |

Yep. Can be quite delicious. And they've tried to return the favor.

| Nice looking cats. Looks like you have been having fun, welan. I have never fished for catfish though I have done a lot of fishing. My favorite fresh water fish to eat is Walleye. Though there are several others that are great as well. | |

| Well my 2 year old wireless G Netgear router died Sunday night. My connection kept dropping like crazy. The people in the IRC room knew how aggrevated I was getting. My wireless has been dropping once or twice a night on my for the past few months. I just thought it was the interference and possibly my onboard card dying, like the wired card. Well when I went into the office Sunday to reboot the pesky thing, it was stuck in an endloop of booting itself. Now it won't even turn back on.
So Monday after work I went to Best Buy and purchased a new Cisco/Linksys E2000 router (N wireless and gigabit wired), and spent the rest of the night reconfiguring it and my wireless devices. Two nights with no connection drops has been quite nice. Also picked up a Linksys AE1000 N usb stick for the lappy. Might as well have the full speed I can. haven't tried making it run under Linux yet. That may be another adventure.
With the router failure found that my ddclient wasn't updating my dynamic dns domains properly. The new router got a new IP from my ISP. So I spent tonight getting it to work properly.

| Sounds like you have been burning the midnight oil, BDQ. Hope the USB wireless works out all right. Too bad your old router went down after only two years. I guess they do not make them like they use to. | |

| Well the pulling season officially ended Saturday with a rain out halfway through. All we got to was unload and do a rush reload in the rain. | |

Yeah we've already been discussing what to do for next year. We have some tough competition to catch up to.

| Tonight's had a little excitement. Found the freezer unplugged just enough that it wasn't running. Luckily most of the beef was still frozen enough to save it. Lost store boughten stuff, because it was on top. | |

| I hate it when the refrigerator goes down. Good you did not lose the more expensive stuff (the beef).
After having lost things in the past I invested in a vacuum sealer. Stuff vacuum sealed will survive a inadvertent thawing. It does wonders on keeping things like pre-cooked fried chicken frozen without loss of flavor. It is a bit of a bother having to setup and use it. But it does allow buying in bulk and having a long storage time.I wish it had something to hook to a #10 can to reseal it after opening. The problem with Frieze dried rations is you must use fairly quickly once you have open the tin.
I have thought about whether a home Nitrogen sealer unit might be a idea for product. Many things you buy from the store, like potato chips, are preserved with nitrogen gas.

| I had no idea about tater chips, but don't remember hearing of that technique before. Are you talking about nitrogen just for its innertness or flash freezing with liquid nitrogen?
I've never played around with vacuum sealing. I just use ziplock bags when throwing things in the freezer.

| If you notice the chip bags are inflated. this is with nitrogen gas (not liquid) used to displace the oxygen. This has two benefits. The bag holds a shape so that the chips are not crushed and without oxygen there is no decay. The bags are not a perfect seal though and after time oxygen gets in.
I use ziplock bags for quick storage. They work good for saving homemade soup and spaghetti sauce. Not very good for keeping meat from eventual freezer burn.

| They've also gotten into filling car tires with nitrogen to prevent insides of rims from rusting. I guess as far as our custom butchered beef, it easily survives over a year in a deep freezer (not top of the fridge freezer) and its not sealed in anyway. Just wrapped very well in plastic and paper. I'm really not sure how they do it so well. | |
