12.1 crashes Empty
PostSubject: 12.1 crashes   12.1 crashes EmptyWed May 23, 2012 8:48 pm

This was suppose to have been a new install over top of 11.4 and as I said in previous thread it just upgraded instead.

I have had nothing but problems with crashes, lock-ups and pages just closing without warning, so I cleaned and tested a different H/D and installed fresh but didn't get very far before an error stopped me dead. After 5 attempts with even worsening results, it had to be hardware related (so I thought), but this is the same machine I have used successfully for 11.0,11.2 and 11.4 with no changes made. (and it did accept the 12.1 upgrade previously)

After swapping out everything I could, I still came up short. It also kept me from installing older ver. as well. It would go as far as the partition format and that was it, until I reset the Cmos on the board and tried it again and this time NO problems. ??

Don't know what it was that screwed up the settings, But so far it seems to be fine.

12.1 crashes Empty

I've had a couple of computers that the BIOS was really touchy on when I changed hardware. I know that I've had to reset after changing RAM and once when adding or changing the hard drive. Hope that it continues to behave well for you.

Not all that unusual for suse to get fickle when upgrading to a newer release. Sometimes it's a hardware issue, sometimes a bios reset can fix it. Anyways I've found that it mostly occures with "Dell" an HP computers, but I've seen it happen with custom built rigs as well. Not that I've been much help but maybe knowing that it's nothing new is help in it's own...

I’ve also needed plug-ins for fire fox that successfully down loaded but would not install. After a reset, I found it too had installed and all is well.(so far)

My desktops are all montages of what ever parts I have acquired and only the laptops are store bought. I loyally patronize the computer shows called "Hamfests" in spring and fall for all kinds of hardware and software at near nothing $. It's a lot of fun and the only thing I won't touch are used hard drives.
