PostSubject: New Machine   Wed Feb 20, 2013 10:04 pm

Well I finally got my new machine assembled and running. Its taken awhile, as I've been under the weather for a week. So far I've just installed Win 7, so that I could do my taxes. Not that I want to do them, but I can always use my money back. I want to Opensuse installed and see if I have trouble with UEFI.

So far the machine seems very snappy and its quiet. I was a bit worried about noise because there are several case fans. Will try to post so pictures soon. Tomorrow I have to put it to work melting away the blizzard welan is sending me.

Sorry to hear you've been under the weather. Especially the weather you've been having. But congratulations on the new machine. I've yet to install the motherboard/CPU.memory/cooler that my son gave me a year ago. Embarassed But I did get Suse 12 installed on the laptop. Haven't gotten the nVidia driver installed yet. Having problems with the wifi. I think I'll go with an ethernet cable for now just to get the driver downloaded and installed.

Good luck melting off the results of that blizzard. welan's a toad. (Even sent me 4" of snow day before yesterday. But it's melting off fast with no help from me. Smile

Sorry to hear you got snow. Luckily we didn't get quite as much as predicted. I had about 5 inches instead of the 8-10 that was predicted.

Well you didn't miss today with predicted dusting that ended up being 6 to 8 inches of heavy wet snow.

Very nice! Does it require it's own circuit? Smile

I did forget to mention those didn't I.

Case is CoolerMaster HAF 932 Advanced (means it came with USB 3.0 ports)
AMD FX 8350 4.0 GHZ, 8 cores
Motherboard is an ASUS Sabertooth 990FX 2.0
16 GB of RAM
2 500GB WD 10k rpm velicoraptor hard drives
Video card is NVIDIA GTX 650. Driving dual ASUS 23 inch LED monitors.
I also included a bluray reader, not writer. Its just a standard DVD burner.
Went with an Antec 650 watt power supply.

I think that covers everything. I went a bit overkill, but I'm hoping it lasts for several years.
