Ok, seem the development team has changed the release titles or numbers. (scratching head)
Not quite sure what to think here. The official announcement can be found here.... http://news.opensuse.org/2010/09/02/opensuse-announce-first-11-4-development-milestone-with-improved-package-management-performance-new-xorg-kde-and-gnome/

This was written some where (mmm if my memory hasn't let me down) iirc and sorry can't even remember where but think mailing list project..

What they're doing is tying it into year.month format so after 11.4 that it'll be something like 11.11 if 8 months is still the release schedule then i.e 12.7.

As mentioned I'm sure I did stumble across this some where either that or I'm making this up but I instinctively knew this now if I could only remember where I saw this.

Edit
iirc it was due to the negative connotations of .0/1 releases as this simply hasn't been the case for a while .x could be just/more unstable than a .0/1 release in distro versioning.

I like the idea of using release date as version number.

I did manage to find it again but tbh I'm not actually sure what the scheme is going to be having re-read it to its conclusion. It certainly is suggested that a year month format could be a way to go but to me it looks inconclusive.

I don't! That's just boring. I think the releases should have the names of soups. So next release could be oxtail claire and the following would be minestrone.

I'm going to skip the soylent green release. Perhaps we could come up with a soup based on the current ubuntu animal.

It reminds of something...I've got it; windows 95, windows 98, windows 2000...Yeah, that's what it makes me think of!

That would be different, in a comfort food kind of way...
