K3b write fails for dual-layer DVD Empty
PostSubject: K3b write fails for dual-layer DVD   K3b write fails for dual-layer DVD EmptyWed Mar 24, 2010 12:05 pm

I have used k3b to write to many different disks, without any problem, but I have just tried to write to a dual layer disk for the first time, and it has failed twice, once at 49% complete, and once at 28%.

My DVD writer (NEC DVD_RW ND-4550a) is supposed to support dual-layer, so it's not the obvious problem!

Can anyone suggest anything, please?

Can't help specifically but I do recall a discussion about cdrkit vs cdrtools. Now I'm not going to get into all the personality blah blah... but I seem to see a few comments that regard the original as better than the fork.

Any way if you look on OBS you have schilly-cdrtools I suspect this will be the one(I'm getting a bit confused from the cdrtools site in one breathe it says included in another not) You'll have to look at the faq to determine what version you're using.

It could be that the drive needs a firmware update. You should be able to find that out on NEC's website. Some drives do allow that anyway. I have an LG that I've done it too.

Fantasistic!! You guys are amazing!

I flashed the drive and upgraded the cdrtools as advised and everything now works perfectly.

Thank you SO much.
