SuSe 13.1 crash Empty
PostSubject: SuSe 13.1 crash   SuSe 13.1 crash EmptyMon May 26, 2014 6:51 pm

Good morning everyone. I installed the OpenSuSe 13.1 with no problem. But when I get to the desktop and tried to update it, the pc crashed. I tried Installing on the 13.1 again also crashed. I reverted back to OpenSuSe 12.2, until now the pc is running smoothly.

I am using Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2200 @ 2.20GHz, 2g ram, no video card attached. Maybe this is a driver incompatibility? Where do I see the log so that I can post it here?

Thanks.

HI, moj591! Welcome to SuseUnbound. Sorry it took so long to respond, this is a busy time of year outside, I can't always get in a lot of computer time.

Unfortunately, I'm not the brightest bulb on the forum, so I'm not sure how much I can help. The real gurus sometimes take a few days to check in. They're busy, too.

A driver issue sounds possible. The boot logs (and others) generally reside in /var/log (I think, I'm not using 13.1 right now). In the meantime, a little more info on your rig could be helpful, like which motherboard are you using, with which on-board video. And which drivers (especially video) are you using/trying to use. Was the first crash during the update, or after it. And what was updating, or had been updated? Was it an update of multiple things? You might try updating one thing at a time, to see exactly what is causing the problem. After the re-install, when was the crash, immediately after the install, or did it repeat what happened the first time (crashed during or after an update, etc.). What video driver are you using with 12.2, and is its performance satisfactory? The more information you give, the more likely we can help you figure out what's going on.

Hope we'll be seeing more of you!

SuSe 13.1 crash Empty
PostSubject: Re: SuSe 13.1 crash   SuSe 13.1 crash EmptyWed Jun 11, 2014 7:32 pm

I've just now installed 13.1 myself and my install was not flawless, it took 3 installs to stabilize it to the point of running an up date which also crashed my computer. (224 up-dates)

I too remounted the 12.1 to search for help but decided to just kept rebooting and each time there were less files needing to be up dated till it finally completed and became stable.

Maybe there should be an auto reboot every so often during an up date of that size.

This is only the 3rd day of use and I like the fast boot but I found myself scrambling to get a suitable "flash" player as I learned Adobe no longer supports Linux. Gnash works but I hope there will be something more complete later.

I haven't gotten a chance to play with it yet. I had also forgotten about the flash support going away.
