mouse pen ? Empty
PostSubject: mouse pen ?   mouse pen ? EmptyTue Jun 26, 2012 8:21 pm

I am looking for a mouse stylus pen that I can use for drawing with Gimp.

I've seen several tablets that support Linux but not any mouse pens.

The genius and others that I found do not specify Linux support but will they work with Linux anyway as I've never had an issue with any mice I've used?

They are all wireless with good resolution as I once had a serial pen years ago with my 386 and it ended up in the trash.

The official wiki has a few listed. http://en.opensuse.org/HCL:Gadgets#Tablets At least I think this is what you're talking about.

Here is a project working on genius specifically http://code.google.com/p/linuxgenius/ And reading the shoot off links, seems to be supporting many others.

I've never used one myself. If they send signals back the way a mouse does, then I would expect them to work ok.

I found most pads and tablets are supported but what I need is a stand alone stylus pen that is actually a mouse that works on all surfaces and what I have seen so far state window$ supported.

Most are not that expensive, but I hate spending anything on something that may not work.

I still haven't seen one, but kind of sounds to me like they've just made a laser mouse that looks like a pen. That's only a guess though. I really have no clue.

After doing some homework on this I’ve decided to go with a tablet anyway as it seems the pen mouse is not the optimal drawing tool I thought it was.

I did find this and thought it to be interesting> http://libregraphicsworld.org/blog/entry/digimend-makes-low-budget-graphic-tablets-just-work-on-linux

Thanks for that link. At one time I was very interested in getting a Wacom tablet, but I've kind of moved away from that. But interest still remains, it's just dormant at the time. It's nice to know the project is ongoing.

Well....................I haven't found a drawing tablet yet but I did get a very inexpensive mouse pen just to see if it works and It does work. Works the same as any other wireless mouse.

Tried it in Gimp.

Good to hear you found something that is working, and was cheap. Do you think its easier to work with?

As a mouse, not really, it takes some getting use to looking at the screen and writing on another surface and it fatigues my hand trying to drawing with it.

I will do more research on drawing tablets to determine what best suits my needs and if it is supported.

Not sure if you are still or not findoctr, but I saw an article on slashdot that reminded me of this thread. Seems to be some actually useful comments.
