| Greetings from sunny Guelph! Just wondered if anyone is testing openSUSE 12.2 or planning to upgrade when it comes out next month? I hesitate because 12.1 is humming along so well. Take care, Jim. | |

| I have not tested it anyway. Probably will upgrade at some point though as I have the rolling release repos setup. | |

| bdquick, how do you find the rolling repositories for stability? Thanks. | |

| I haven't had any troubles, but to be honest I don't get to spend much time on suse anymore. Having to use Windows at home a lot for work, or at least attempting to work. | |

| I usually wait for at least 2 release increments before an upgrade but I am curious to see what improvements are in this one. | |

I am having no luck with the current version, so I'll give it a try

| I downloaded both Gnome and KDE versions. They both worked very well, in fact better than the release version. | |

| Greetings from Guelph. I am testing openSUSE 12.2 KDE 64 RC1 bit in Virtualbox and it seems very solid. I have had no issues except for a little over sensitivity in the desktop effects tiling open apps when the mouse is moved. Otherwise, it feels like a release to me. Machine: Asus X53U 64 bit laptop, 2 AMD Brazos cores, 4 gig ram, Radeon graphics. | |

| I've been hearing people praise it. I know they've delayed some to fix problems, which in my opinion is a good thing. Better than releasing something with known issues and then fixing after its ran a bunch of users off. | |

| I am currently playing with 12.2 Rc2. Everything was great until I tried to install my IP printer. This of course requires modification to the firewall services, adding MDNS, IPP, IPP client and Samba client. Unfortunately only the Samba-client is available from the pull down menu, and I don't have the knowledge for adding the rest without this feature. Oh well, perhaps Rc3? | |

| You would have to find out what port numbers they run on. Personally I don't run the firewall at home. I'm trusting my linksys router to do the job just fine. | |

I believe it uses 9100, so I went back to 12.1 to check. Lo and behold, things have changed again. The firewall no longer sports the services I so carefully added, they have been replaced by mDNS/Bonjour support for HPLIP during one of the updates I presume. What I learned a scant six months ago, is already obsolete. My Dlink router has a built in firewall, but my service provider retains control of it, ergo I don't trust it. It's like when a buly guy approaches you in an alley saying: The neighbourhood is unsafe. Let me carry your wallet for you!

| Its unfortunate that they don't give you control of the dlink router. My ISP just provides me with a modem. The one my parents are on provide a modem with a built in NAT firewall, but give you the information to change the settings inside it.
You haven't happened to try the standard login for the model have you?

It may have something to do with the fact that they also provide IPTV, and may want to safeguard their interests. On the other hand it seems they aren't capable of differentiating between TV, and internet traffic, so I enjoy umneasured downloads. Very handy for someone who likes to try different distros.

| Think we are lucky here to not have data usage limits on our internet. At least we don't yet, I'm sure they will decide to try that sometime. | |
