I got a new HTC phone about 3 weeks ago, and looking for a way to sync my gmail email but keep the contacts and everything else seperate. Before this I had a Samsung phone, which would do this. I'm not sure if I'm missing an obvious setting or forgot how I did it before. My googlefu has not turned anything up. Anyone have ideas.

I want nothing to do with an iphone or ipads. Its bad enough I have an ipod. Apple is to restrictive for me. Not that all of google's tracking is better.

Think I'm going to give up on this quest for now. I've yet to find anything to get around it. I don't use my gmail that much, its mostly for the forum and mailing lists so its not a big deal to manually refresh when I want to check. Might be able to do it with an email app besides the native gmail one, using POP3 access.
