| This has been going on for some time, but I use a Flash player so rarely it hasn't bothered me much. Anyway, somebody on Facebook posts a video, it's short enough I think I'll try it, I click and get this: - Quote :
- Flash Player upgrade required
You must download and install the latest version of the Adobe Flash Player to view this content. I have the latest and greatest Flashplayer (OK, not the latest, but it was when I installed it and I've had this problem since before then; it's why I upgraded this far.) installed but it's not recognized in the browser. Is there a place to register it or a directory it's required to be in? OpenSuse 11.0, Firefox 3.6.3, Flashplayer 9.0.124.0-10.1 present in /usr/bin

| Does your Firefox show under the Tools>Add ons>Plugins that Shockwave flash is listed? If not you might need to check that you have the plugin installed into the .mozilla plugins folder. Since the flash player has moved on beyond 9 that might be a problem as well. In YaST what does searching for Flash- show installed?

Yup. And enabled. - Quote :

That's where I got the information in my original post, and it's confirmed everywhere else I've looked. I know Flash has moved to ver.10.x, but at the time I installed the present version I had the same problem. In fact, IIRC, I was getting the same message with the offer to get the newest Flash, and that's when I got ver. 9, and as soon as It was installed, I just got the same message. I've been reluctant to go for ver 10 since it takes so friggin' long and the last time (I think the last *2* times) I've upgraded I just end up accomplishing nothing anyway. So I thought I'd ask before I tried it. If there's nothing fairly obvious/simple that I'm missing, I'll just wait until I upgrade Suse to 11.3 or 12.x, then see if I have the same problem to fix. I usually don't try flash stuff because of the slow connection anyway. Thanks for the quick response.

| It has been a long time since I played around with getting flash working. I had no problems with it on 11.2 so my memories of the stuff has grown dim. (Anything more than a couple of weeks is hard to recall these days ) I seem to recall that U-tube does not need flash? It may be some other problem with your multimedia codecs. Were they the ones from Packman? | |

| Yes, the codecs are from Packman. Getting a Youtube video through Facebook takes Flash; that's where the the error message I posted came from. I'm wondering now that I'm actually thinking if it might be some interference from plugins in Firefox. And yes, I *eventually* allowed Flash in NoScript . I don't think it's an option in any of the other plugins I have, but maybe I should start disabling them all and see what happens. There seems to be a correlation between the amount of memory in my computers and how well my personal memory works. As the amount in my computer has soared, *I* can't remember squat. Thanks for your help | |

| Hey, I have downloaded the latest version Firefox. The program refuses to start stating that Adobe Flash Player is not installed. But I have installed the newest version and checked on the Adobe website that it is correctly installed. Adobe flash player downloaded but does not reognized. I have firefox 3.0 and IE7. This is an identical problem on two browsers. I have tried restarting a couple of times now, but it did nothing. Please help!!!
