Novell to be aquired by Attachmate.

It will be interesting what this will mean for SUSE. It will also be interesting how the community takes the news.

Well from the looks of Attachmate's products they are big into Linux as most of their products are for supporting Linux servers and mainframes.

It's the IP side of this deal that seems to be the greatest cause for concern.

I did see that it was officially announced that all UNIX rights stayed with Novell.

sorry guys, when I saw an article about this deal I immediately posted a thread, didn't see this one, my humble apologies for starting the same topic.

but I wonder if some are correct in their assumption that SuSE will fall to the wayside.

I certainly hope not I think this is a darn strong distro and find it much better than the other top three.

It is a great distro. How the sale stuff works out is still in the works. I wonder how much the official Forum will be hit since it's hosted by Novell out of Salt lake, Ut. All the stuff with unified passwords and the database from Novell does make a person think.

With some luck the openSUSE will be spun off and someone more in tuned with Linux will acquire it. From what I read of Attachmate, they do not look like a company with long term prospects. More of a shell company.
