| As some of you know, I have a truck and tractor pulling addiction errr I mean hobby. A friend of mine posted a helmet cam video of her driving down the track. If you're interested in things with wheels and lots of horsepower, you might like this. Not sure how much horsepower their tractor has, but I'd say its a little over 2000. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sSJ5q-5wGeE&feature=share | |

| Looked like an easy pull. Very impressive. The last time the show came to town, I was on duty about 200 yards from the stadium. I still remember the way the building and we were vibrating from the noise. Just out of curiosity, how long do those engines last outputting that kind of power? | |

| Amazingly they last through a summer of pulls. The high performance parts these days are very good. We still get faulty parts once in awhile though. Normally though human error is the cause of engine failures. We blew an engine 4 years ago now I guess, because we didn't get the clutch adjusted properly. | |

| That's pretty good considering how close you are coming to the limits of endurance with that kind of power output. Do you have to tear down between sessions? A friend had a race car (Hemi Charger) that had nowhere the power you guys generate, and he had to rebuild every couple of weeks. Not a cheap hobby.
Hope the hurricane did no damage for you guys.

| I'm not sure what all the tractor guys do between pulls, but I know they don't overhaul the engine. Our truck doesn't make quite as much, but its still making around 1000hp. We normally just change the oil every other weekend, which amounts to about 4 passes. At the same time we rocker arm clearance, and just give it a general looking over for anything that might be shaking loose. | |

| Since you are a self confessed gearhead, I'm curious about your opinion on hybrid, or electric vehicles. Most unlikely that they'll ever be used for tractor pulls, but electric motors are high torque devices. | |

| Electric works well for getting down the road and at a decent speed. Unfortunately at this time it has very short range. For electric to really catch on the range has to increase, battery price decrease, and recharge time decrease. My other thing would be getting the technology into a big car, once its worked out. | |

| There is some headway being made towards better batteries, but I don't think the depletion issue can be avoided, and replacement costs are prohibitive. Another concern is the already stressed power grid in most regions. | |

| You know, I think even if every square inch of the planet was once covered by dinosours, the oil produced from their remains would have been used up by now. USGS figured up to 1 trillion barrels have been recovered by the year 2000. | |

| LOL that is true. And don't forget the amazement when they found bacteria eating the oil up after the gulf spill. | |

| I missed this post, that's pretty cool!
Back when I use to ski, (in the stone age) I always made a few runs with an 8mm movie camera in my hand.
It's been a long time since I saw and heard those things. NICE!

| Yeah I'd like to put a cam in our truck sometime. If those GoPros would get a little cheaper, I would buy one. | |
