So....in the interests of marital harmony, I'm thinking of buying a second-hand desktop (tower) PC to play on. Does anyone have any views on machines that are particularly good/bad for Linux?

Most slightly older (2 years or more ) Dells don't always play nice with Linux, same with Gateways.
HP's and Compaq's seem to work nicely.
And as a side note I've got Opensuse running on several older (P4 3.2gig HT and a P4 2.6gig) IBM's. Had no install issues with hardware at all.

Another good idea might be to build yourself a box. Would probably get more bang for the buck, and as long as you don't go with the newest tech cost shouldn't be bad.
